Deck Managers

Memphis in May International Festival is seeking Independent Contractors to serve as Deck Managers for each of the three (3) main stages at the 2018 Beale Street Music Festival, a three-day outdoor music festival in downtown Memphis, TN.  The dates for the 2018 BSMF are May 4- 6, 2018.  Compensation covers, in general, Four (4) full-time days on-site. Stage Managers shall be expected to be on-site in Memphis, TN beginning May 3rd through May 6th, 2018.  Deck Managers will report to their assigned Stage Manager, with additional reporting to Festival VP of Operations and Festival Talent Coordinator as necessary. 

The duties of the Deck Manager shall include but not be limited to:

  • Oversight and management of Operational responsibilities for artist performances at the assigned stage at the 2018 Beale Street Music Festival.
  • Day-of coordination of all aspects of the professional production of musical performances to include, but not be limited to, the following:  Equipment Load-in, vehicle parking, stage hands, security, the operation of sound, lights, staging and monitor and electrical systems, band gear, risers and other necessary components of the scheduled musical performances.
  • Operate their assigned stage in a safe and secure fashion for the benefit of patrons, performers, vendors and staff.  This shall include actively monitoring adverse weather and crowd conditions to ensure a safe environment.  Deck manager shall immediately communicate any potential safety concerns or threats to their Stage Manager, Festival Talent Coordinator and Festival VP of Operations.
  • Projecting a positive and professional image of MIM and the Beale Street Music Festival and create a positive interaction with artists, vendors, staff, contractors and volunteers.

Compensation for the position is $1,000.00 flat.

Stage Managers

Memphis in May International Festival is seeking Independent Contractors to serve as Stage Managers for each of the three (3) main stages at the 2018 Beale Street Music Festival, a three-day outdoor music festival in downtown Memphis, TN.  The dates for the 2018 BSMF are May 4- 6, 2018.  Compensation covers, in general, Two (2) part-time days and Three (3) full-time days on-site and pre-event follow up work with artists scheduled to perform on their assigned stage. Stage Managers shall be expected to be on-site in Memphis, TN beginning May 2nd through May 6th, 2018.  Stage Managers will report to Festival Talent Coordinator, with additional reporting to Festival VP of Operations as necessary. 

The duties of the Stage Manager shall include but not be limited to:

  • Oversight and management of Operational responsibilities for artist performances at the assigned stage at the 2018 Beale Street Music Festival.
  • Coordinating all aspects of the professional production of musical performances to include, but not be limited to, the following:  Equipment Load-in, vehicle parking, stage hands, security, the operation of sound, lights, staging and monitor and electrical systems, band gear, risers and other necessary components of the scheduled musical performances.  Additional responsibilities shall include artist transportation, hospitality, golf carts, guest lists and credentials, payment to artists, stage and production staffing and operation of a professional back stage and production office for the benefit of the Memphis in May Beale Street Music Festival and artists contracted to perform.
  • Operate their assigned stage in a safe and secure fashion for the benefit of patrons, performers, vendors and staff.  This shall include actively monitoring adverse weather and crowd conditions to ensure a safe environment.  Stage manager shall immediately communicate any potential safety concerns or threats to both Festival Talent Coordinator and Festival VP of Operations.
  • Projecting a positive and professional image of MIM and the Beale Street Music Festival and create a positive interaction with artists, vendors, staff, contractors and volunteers.

Compensation for the position is $2,000.00 flat plus 5 nights paid lodging.

Stage Production Assistant

Memphis in May International Festival is seeking Independent Contractors to serve as Stage Production Assistants for each of the three (3) main stages at the 2018 Beale Street Music Festival, a three-day outdoor music festival in downtown Memphis, TN.  The dates for the 2018 BSMF are May 4- 6, 2018.  This seasonal position requires, in general, Two (2) part-time days and Three (3) full-time days on-site.  Stage Production Assistants shall be expected to be on-site in Memphis, TN beginning May 2nd through May 6th, 2018.  Stage Production Assistants will report to their respective Stage Managers, with additional reporting to the Festival Talent Coordinator and Festival VP of Operations as necessary. 

Stage Production Assistant’s primary duty is to assist the Stage Manager with administrative and other operational duties as needed, to include but not be limited to the following:

  • General Office duties including answering phones, sending emails and creating MS Word and Excel documents.
  • Creating and organizing sign-in / sign-out sheets for site crew, equipment, keys and other MIM assets.
  • Handling petty cash and collecting / organizing all receipts to ensure balance of transactions.
  • Organizing and maintaining mobile office space to ensure an efficient place to conduct business.
  • Conducting business in a personal and friendly manner as to represent Memphis in May in a positive light.

 

There is a mutual understanding that there may be issues or responsibilities not fully contemplated in this document.

Requirements:

  • Some knowledge and / or experience in event and entertainment planning and production.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing (good phone skills, email, correspondence, etc.).
  • The ability to analyze problems, identify solutions and project consequences of proposed actions.
  • The ability to remain calm when working in high pressure, time sensitive situations.
  • Extremely detail oriented and able to handle a multi-task work environment.
  • The ability to work long hours as required for all event operations.

Operations Production Assistant

Memphis in May International Festival is seeking an Independent Contractor to serve as Operations Production Assistant for the 2018 Festival.  This is a full-time temporary seasonal position lasting approximately 14 weeks, beginning in late February and lasting through June 1st, 2018.  The Operations Production Assistant reports directly to the Festival VP of Operations.
