Born and raised in a city rich in music history Memphis native AL
KAPONE found himself along with other peers following in their
forefathers footsteps developing a new southern hip hop sound that
would later be dubbed crunk music later popularized by Atlanta most
notable Lil Jon, besides groups like Three Six Mafia and Eightball
& MJG most Memphis artist along with Kapone would go unnoticed to
the rest of the country until Craig Brewer and John Singleton’s cult
classic film Hustle and Flow which would thrust AL KAPONE in the global
spotlight. Kapone wrote and produced three songs for the film and
soundtrack, the Oscar winning music would earn AL KAPONE a Critic’s
Choice Award for It Ain’t Over the Hustle and Flow theme song and Whoop
That Trick would become one of the most memorable crunk songs of all
time. This led Kapone to write and produce music for other films such
as 1 box office movie Stomp The Yard feat. platinum artist Neo and
Chris Brown, Cadillac Records feat. multi platinum megastar Beyonce as
well as top 10 Billboard hits Snap Yo Fingaz ( Lil Jon) and U and Dat
(E40 feat. T-Pain) to name a few.
AL KAPONE continues to capitalize off his writing career landing
him a co-pub deal with EMI Music Publishing and with his new found
success he never stopped developing his own music career as an
artist/performer, instead of riding the crunk wave he would take a
detour and start focusing on the Memphis music legacy(Al Green, Stax
Records, Isaac Hayes, Elvis, B.B. King, etc.) and decided to record a
project with live instruments which would enable him to perform his new
songs with a live band. This would create a fresh new hip hop sound
that’s unique to the Memphis scene and hopefully injects a creative
spirit in a hip hop scene that has become known for following the
current trend. AL KAPONE’s new project represents southern rap bump
laced with rock guitars as well as songs with soulful bass guitar
grooves and wah wah guitars. Kapone is currently introducing his new
sound performing with his live band. AL KAPONE has been a trailblazer
from the beginning and today is no exception, becoming the first hip
hop artist to be president of the Memphis Chapter of the Grammys and
working on new Web Film “5 Dollar Cover” with Craig Brewer and MTV. His
new sound and stage show is crossing all race and age barriers and has
tremendous global appeal. Check out AL KAPONE music and live concert
