WCBCC Visitor FAQs

Below are things to know before you visit the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest:

  • This is a competition. Local health regulations prohibit teams from serving barbecue to the general public. There are barbecue vendors, as well as other food vendors that sell food to the public.
  • Food and beverages, including beer, are available from the concessionaires.
  • All food must be purchased with cash. ATMs are available at Tom Lee Park for your convenience.
  • Picture I.D.'s will be required from everyone purchasing alcohol.
  • The Kingsford Tour of Champions and Cooker's Caravan allow for a team-like WCBCC experience.
  • Wear comfortable shoes! The park is roughly one mile from end to end.
  • All packages and purses are subject to inspection.

WHAT NOT TO BRING: No beverages, bicycles, cans, containers, coolers, food, glass bottles, laser pointers, lawn chairs, over-sized umbrellas, pets, roller blades, roller skates, water guns, weapons or thrown objects (baseballs, footballs, frisbees, etc.).

We love visitors! Each year, the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest entertains visitors from around the world. In 2013, visitors came from all 50 states and 8 foreign countries. Please let our guest services volunteers know you are our visitor, and they will explain all of the rib-tickling entertainment offerings.

If you're planning on visiting the event, please take advantage of the following programs and events for visitors.

While local codes prohibit teams from selling barbecue to the general public, the Kingsford Tour of Champions allows you to taste and judge world-class barbecue.

Ms. Piggie Idol

Imagine grown men dressed in tutus and snouts, parading around the stage and "singing" familiar songs with barbecue-infused lyrics involving pork, grilling and more. It's an event you have to see to believe.

America's Premier .2K Run

Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, known around the globe for its fierce competitiveness from among the world’s most formidable competitors, has announced an additional event beginning in 2015 with its Inaugural Big Hog Run. This event addresses the increasing popularity of running events and serves as a grand opening kick-off to the 2015 WCBCC.

We'll see you again in 2016 for the second annual Big Hog Run!

    Don't miss a single minute of the fun-filled pig mania on the Main Stage! From the hilarious Ms. Piggie Idol competition on Thursday night, the Friday and Saturday night Awards Ceremonies, and the live entertainment, you'll be squealing all the way home.

    Cracker has been described as a lot of things over the years: alt-rock, Americana, insurgent-country, and have even had the terms punk and classic-rock thrown at them. But more than anything Cracker are survivors. With more than 10 studio albums and thousands of live performances, their worldwide fan base continues to grow each year.

    The 1989 release of Loc'd After Dark put rapper Tone Loc in the spotlight. The breakthrough album spawned the hit singles "Wild Thing" and "Funky Cold Medina" which still remain Loc's best-known tunes. The 1980s rap pioneer made such a splash that he ended up being just the second rap act ever to reach #1 on Billboard's album charts. Loc landed a few notable acting roles in the mid-90’s and may best be remembered for his work in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

    World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, May 12-14, 2016



    Every year, hundreds of teams compete for over $111,000 in prizes and supreme bragging rights. Teams adorn their areas with elaborate decoration, trophies attesting to their boasting rights, and as one can imagine, clever and creative team names. While grilling is the main theme, the contest wouldn't be complete without the "Ms. Piggie Idol" competition where the finest swine tests their vocal skills, and grown men dress in tutus and snouts and women kick their heels (hooves) up. There is also a t-shirt competition as well as a best booth contest.
