The Memphis Rotary Club

The Memphis Rotary Club focuses their weekly luncheon meeting on economic developments and commercial opportunities in the 2012 honored country the Philippines.  Mr. Guillermo M. Luz, Co-Chair of the Philippine National Competitiveness Council (NCC), will be the featured speaker. Mr. Luz spent two decades as executive director of the Makati Business Club and served as COO and director of Ayala Foundation 2006 - 2011.

The Economic Club of Memphis in partnership with Memphis in May International Festival is pleased to welcome Mr. Aurelio Montinola, III, President and CEO of Bank of the Philippine Islands.   In addition to his duties with BPI, Mr. Montinola serves as the President of the Bankers Association of the Philippines. He was awarded the 2005 and 2009 Asian Banker Leadership Award for the Philippines and the 2006 CEO Excel Award for Communication Excellence in Banking and Finance.

International Business Council Luncheon

The International Business Council of the Greater Memphis Chamber will feature keynote speaker Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia Jr. of the Republic of the Philippines.  

A highly successful business and government executive prior to his posting as Ambassador to the United States in April 2011, Ambassador Cuisia served as President & CEO Social Security System, Governor & Chairman of Central Bank of the Philippines, Chairman of the Board of Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation and CEO of Philippine American Life and General Insurance Company. In 2007, the Management Association of the Philippines elected him Management Man of the Year.

The Philippines – Tourism Perspective

The Memphis Convention and Vistor's Bureau hosts Secretary, Department of Tourism, The Honorable Ramon Jimenez, Jr. in a special luncheon meeting of the Memphis hospitality and tourism community. Secretary Jimenez will discuss the innovative launch of the national tourism campaign “It’s more fun in the Philippines”.

Secretary Jimenez was the senior consultant and joint chief executive officer of WOO (Winning Over Obstacles) Consultants, and help build Jimenez Basic Advertising into the largest creative advertising agency in the Philippines during his stint as joint CEO from 1989 to 2008. His work at the agency has been closely associated with the rise of Philippine brands such as Jollibee, Selecta Ice Cream, San Miguel Beer, and Cebu Pacific among others.

Life Sciences in the Philippines

Dr. Jamie C. Montoya, Executive Director of the Philippines Council for Health and Research Development will present a program on current developments and areas of focus in life science research in the Philippines during a meeting of the Memphis Bioworks Business Association.   

A highly trained Infectious Disease Specialist in Clinical Tropical Medicine with training from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and certified by the Royal College of Physicians, London, and the Philippine Board of Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease, Dr. Montoya is a chartered biologist recognized by the Institute of Biology, UK and an honorary fellow of the  Royal Institute of Doctors, Singapore.  An international expert, Dr. Montoya formed the ASEAN Network for Drugs, Diagnostics and Vaccines Innovation. He is the Philippine focal person for biotechnology for ASEAN and for the Health Sciences for EU.
