Floyd Benson Promoted to Vice President of Operations
Memphis in May International Festival today announced the promotion of Floyd Benson to Vice President of Operations, overseeing the production and coordination of all the month-long festival’s events. Having previously worked for Memphis in May in the mid-1990s and again in the mid-2000s, Benson returned to the Festival in September of 2016, bringing more than 20 years’ experience in special event operations and management.
“Floyd’s history of almost ten years with our organization previously, plus his additional experience in event production and management made him the perfect fit for this role,” said Memphis in May International Festival President and CEO Jim Holt. “As expected, he handled each situation that arose at this year’s Festival with calm professionalism. From managing the artists at Beale Street Music Festival and coordinating the logistics of the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, to mitigating the damage from the storm that followed 901Fest so the Great American River Run could still be held at Tom Lee Park, to working with our public safety partners to ensure the security of our events, Floyd kept our Festival running smoothly and greatly contributed to our record-setting year.”
Prior to his Memphis in May return, Benson most recently served seven years as production manager for a concert promoter and as venue manager for BankPlus Amphitheater in Southaven, MS, where he developed his skills in working with artists, tour managers, venue managers, vendors, and local public safety officials to successfully produce more than twelve live events each season.
An alumnus of Harding University, Benson and his wife live in Southaven, MS.
