Memphis in May International Festival announces that registration for the 2018 Great American River Run presented by AutoZone is NOW OPEN.

Now in its third year, organizers are offering deep discounts for early registrations exclusively during the month of December: the half marathon is only $45, and the 5K is just $20.  In honor of the race being held on Memorial Day weekend, an additional discount is offered to members of the military: $10 off the half marathon and $5 off the 5K.   Registration fees are scheduled to increase each month as the race date approaches, with final prices of $85 for the half marathon and $40 for the 5K, so runners are strongly encouraged to register now for the greatest savings.

“The 2017 Great American River Run was challenged by the incredible storm that tore through Memphis the night before the race and destroyed our park infrastructure, but didn’t deter our racers,” says James L. Holt, president and CEO of Memphis in May. “As a result, we want to make the 2018 race even better, and are working to deliver on our annual promise of the best post-race party ever, with your favorite Memphis food, local beer, and great live music on the banks of the Mississippi River in Tom Lee Park.”

Runners from thirty-three states and four foreign countries participated last year’s race, which featured an exclusive incentive to the Great American River Run’s half marathon: the “King and Queen of the Hill.”  Returning in 2018, the King and Queen of the Hill offers an additional $500 prize to the fastest male and female runners to crest the A.W. Willis bridge at mile 10.

Both the half marathon and 5K races will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018, and are designed for all levels of runner, from elite athletes to the beginning runner or family participant.  Courses wind through downtown Memphis and along the riverfront, starting and ending on Riverside Drive in Tom Lee Park.  Additionally, all participants in the Great American River Run will receive FREE admission to 901Fest held later that day, the final event of the month-long Memphis in May festivities, celebrating all that makes Memphis great.
