Bringing the Philippines to Memphis in May of 2012
Each year, Memphis in May brings exciting and alluring exhibits from the honored country to local museums, galleries, and public spaces, providing PEOPLE OF THE MID-SOUTH with the opportunity to experience international culture first-hand. Exhibits are on display on May 1 - 31 of each year.
“Revolution Revisited”
This
photography exhibit by Kim Komenich captures the historic “people power” revolt
in the Philippines that brought an end to the regime of President Ferdinand E. Marcos and swept Corazon C. Aquino into power. During the period leading to the People Power
Revolution, Komenich was a photographer for the San Francisco Examiner and this
assignment garnered him the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for Spot News Photography

The Corregidor Island Story
Historical
and informative exhibit outlines the importance the tiny island played during
World War II. Exhibit includes artifacts
from life on the island during the key time periods and influential
battles. Explore the history of
Corregidor, Malinta Tunnel, Gen. Douglas MacArthur and the remarkable
determination of Filipino and American soldiers.
