March Volunteer Update
The Volunteer Application Draws Near!
The 2010 deadline for volunteer applications is March 15, 2010. Be sure to fill out your application before it is too late. Remember, volunteering is always better with a friend!
Volunteer Scheduling
March is a pre-May scheduling and meeting month. Your volunteer committee
leadership will be getting in touch with you about scheduling your volunteer
participation. Accurate scheduling ensures your volunteer commitment is
maximized. Memphis in May asks for a minimum commitment of 12 volunteer
hours accrued though the month of May. If you have any questions about
your committee responsibility, consult your committee Chair.
New Volunteer Training
The training will educate all new volunteers on the events of Memphis in May
and the volunteer program. The training is mandatory for all new
volunteers who will be participating in the 2010 Memphis in May International
Festival. The training is optional for all returning volunteers. At
the New Volunteer Training, volunteers will have a chance to meet with their
committee leaders to answer specific questions about their roles in making
Memphis in May happen.

About the Training: Volunteering for Memphis in May can be
confusing and disorienting without proper preparation and meetings. In
the next week or so, you will be hearing from you committee’s volunteer
leadership about upcoming committee meetings. The committee meetings will
help you cover the details and scheduling of your volunteer involvement.
The New Volunteer Orientation is a chance to cover the subtle basics of
volunteering; where to go, how to check-in, parking, meals, etc.
The meeting is required because of how important the information is to
successfully volunteering.
If you are unable to attend or live out of town, please contact the Volunteer Office (volunteer@memphisinmay.org) to be emailed a detailed
information packet. You will still be able to volunteer.
Keep in Touch!
In the April, there will be a few important mailings sent to you regarding your
volunteer schedule, credentials, and volunteer parking. Be sure to update
Memphis in May if any of your contact information has changed. Email the
volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@memphisinmay.org or call (901) 525-4611.
Volunteer Program Honored!
The International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA) paid
tribute to the Memphis in May International Festival with another Gold
Pinnacle award for Best Volunteer Program for events with budgets $1.5
million and above. The Memphis in May Volunteer Program has also won
Gold awards in 2008, 2006, and 2004. A special congratulations and a
hearty thank you goes out to all the volunteers who participated last
year in this award winning program.
Volunteer Application Available Online
The 2010 Volunteer Application is now available and on the Memphis in May website. We encourage you to volunteer early to ensure your spot on the committee(s) or your choice. The application is available in the Volunteer Application page of this website.
ALL interested volunteers new and retuning need to complete a 2010 Volunteer Application. Paper applications are available and can acquired by calling the Volunteer Coordinator at (901) 525 4611.

Memphis in May would like to thank Buckeye Technologies, a long time supporter of the festival. Buckeye Technologies is a Memphis based producer of value-added cellulose specialty products.
