Event Operations Manager

The Memphis in May International Festival is seeking an experienced event operations manager with demonstrated success in administering and managing public event programs. The successful candidate will have expertise in administrating entries, managing vendors, event personnel, participants, and event operations, as well as experience in site development, warehouse, asset, labor, and volunteer management. This is a full-time, year-round event operations position with one of America’s leading civic festival organizations. 

This position requires an individual with project management skills who is an effective communicator and is both strategic and hands-on. We seek a highly responsible individual who is detail-oriented and an energetic team player capable of working long hours at multiple events within a narrow time frame.   

The position has operational responsibilities for production elements at all festival events, with principal responsibility for our two major competition programs, the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest and the Great American River Run. A minimum of three years of public event management experience is required. Experience with competition running and/or culinary events is desirable. The position has dual reporting responsibilities to the Vice President of Operations and the President & CEO.

We offer a starting base salary range between $45,000 and $48,000 along with a desirable benefits package including paid medical, dental, vision insurance coverage as well as an expense reimbursement plan, a generous 401K plan, plus annual bonus, and paid time off. The position is salary exempt and offers significant overtime pay during the festival season.

Memphis in May International Festival is a 44-year-old 501-C3 not-for-profit community organization that is the official festival of the City of Memphis.  Governed by a 19-member board of directors, managed by a 14-member full-time professional staff, and supported by 900 community volunteers, the organization operates with a $12 million annual budget. 

Our organization produces the city's largest annual events including the Beale Street Music Festival, the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, and the Great American River Run, and produces a comprehensive international salute program for a selected foreign country with extensive education, cultural, and economic development programs.
