Celebrate Memphis Fireworks
This year’s salute to our city’s rich culture and colorful history as part of Memphis’ Bicentennial Celebration culminates in our Celebrate Memphis event on Saturday, May 25 in Tom Lee Park. The FREE EVENT will have music, food and experiences perfect for all ages.
Gates open at 3pm, and the event concludes with the largest fireworks display in the Mid-South! With the Mississippi River providing the perfect backdrop, witness a massive fireworks show like never before seen in Memphis. Bring your family and friends to Celebrate Memphis with your neighbors!
Tom Lee Park Redesign
Memphis River Parks Partnership and Memphis in May staff and board members met on February 26 with Studio Gang and ArchInc to compare the test fits produced by both parties and to work through the issues of concern. We had a very productive meeting. Our teams will continue to work together over the next couple of weeks to address the remaining issues with the goal of producing these two big Memphis in May weekends in a new signature riverfront park. We will meet again the week of March 18 and feel confident that with compromise on both sides we’ll reach a solution together that works for stakeholders who enjoy the Park.
Sponsor Spotlight: Memphis Tourism

“Memphis in May events are expected to be stronger than ever this year, as we honor our hometown and begin a "New Century of Soul" in Memphis & Shelby County," said Kevin Kane, President & CEO of Memphis Tourism. "The tourism industry values this festival every year because of the economic impact it provides to our city. Locals and visitors from all over the world join these events and become our best Ambassadors helping us grow and sustain our tourism economy.”
2019 Salute to Memphis
While we aren't saluting a foreign country in 2019, an extensive programming calendar will still be featured in May. Cinema showings, cuisine events, exhibits, lectures, in-school performances and many more elements will take place. Included in that is several guided walking tours by the Official historian of Shelby County, Jimmy Ogle. View the entire calendar of events.
2019 Volunteer Expo
More than 200 people attended the Volunteer Expo at Beale Street Landing on Feb. 21, resulting in 80 new volunteers registering to serve this year. That’s the second largest group of new volunteers in the last five years! If you haven’t registered to volunteer with Memphis in May yet but would like to, please click here.
