After the announcement on March 27 that the Beale Street Music Festival and World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest would be rescheduled for October this year in light of the recommendations and concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, Memphis in May International Festival has determined a new date for the 2020 Great American River Run presented by AutoZone.

In working with officials from the City of Memphis, Memphis in May event organizers have selected Saturday, October 24, 2020 as the new race date.

“As one of the fastest-growing races in Memphis, we did not want to disappoint the thousands of runners expected at the Great American River Run,” says James L. Holt, president and CEO of Memphis in May. “Running is a great stress-reliever and once this pandemic is behind us, our race will allow runners to leave their stress on our downtown racecourse and enjoy the best post-race party ever in Tom Lee Park.”

Runners from thirty-three states and three countries participated in last year’s GARR, and with the race now scheduled for the fall, many more are expected to use it as a training run for the St. Jude Marathon weekend that follows a few weeks later.

With a half marathon, 10K and 5K, the Great American River Run is designed for all levels of runner, from elite athletes to the beginning runner or family participant.  Courses wind through downtown Memphis and along the riverfront, starting and ending on Riverside Drive in Tom Lee Park.
