In-School Performance: All Roads Lead to Memphis
Who: Shelby County Historian and master storyteller Jimmy Ogle and Blues musician Linear Smith, aka "the man with 1,000 songs”
What: Students will enjoy the special presentation, “All Roads Lead to Memphis” by Jimmy Ogle. A virtual encyclopedia of fascinating facts and stories, Mr. Ogle walks his audiences along the journey that made our hometown into the city it is today. Ogle colorfully narrates the city’s past as if it’s jumping from the pages of history into real life!
Why: In 2019, the City of Memphis will experience a unique moment, celebrating our 200th Anniversary while beginning a New Century of Soul! Memphis has changed the world…and we’re not done yet. We are a city of doers, dreamers and believers. We create, we invent, we experiment. That’s what drives this unstoppable city. In honor of this Bicentennial Celebration, Memphis in May takes this opportunity to salute the colorful history and rich culture of Memphis and invites you to join us.
When: This year’s performances will be offered week days May 6-17. Performances are scheduled during school hours and in conjunction with the school schedule. Performances will last approximately 60 minutes.
Where: Memphis in May International Festival once again offers cultural performances to Memphis area schools free of charge! Celebrate the Bicentennial with us and treat your school to an entertaining and educational performance about Memphis.
